FBO, previously Firmin’s Boks Office, produced Dominique Deruddere’s 2007 film Firmin. In 2012 the film production company became FBO. In 2013 FBO co-produced Bill Condon’s The Fifth Estate, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange (opening film of the Toronto International Film Festival and Filmfest Gent), followed in 2014 by Antoinette Beumer’s Rendez-vous, based on Esther Verhoef’s book by the same title. In 2015 FBO and Woestijnvis co-produced Jan Eelen’s fiction series Callboys, set in the world of gigolos. The series was nominated for an International Emmy Award and awarded the Rockie Award for best comedy as well as the FIPA d’Or for best actor. In 2016 came Erik Van Looy’s De Premier (The Prime Minister), a co-production with Woestijnvis and Millstreet Films starring Koen De Bouw. The film attracted over 400,000 visitors and was sold internationally, amongst others to Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Japan, China and South Korea. The 12-part series De Dag (The Day), written by Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu and directed by Gilles Coulier and Dries Vos, was first broadcast in March 2018 on Telenet’s Play More platform. The series hit the bull’s eye with the national and international press, and the general public loved it. It has since been sold to a.o. Germany (ZDFNeo), France (Canal+), The Netherlands (Ziggo), the UK (VirginMedia), Sweden (SVT), Norway (NOK) and Australia (SBS). Together with Dutch Millstreet Films FBO has co-produced the TV-series Soof and Baantjer, the series Brussel in co-production with Endemol Shine, and De Maatschap in co-production with Dutch Mountain Film.
